Ibiza as a developing MICE destination

Spain’s tourist destination of Ibiza has been long associated with holiday offers, but now they’re promoting themselves as an alternative for the MICE(Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) industry. Business tourism is forming part of Spain’s forward-looking needs.  During the winter season, Ibiza has an acknowledged issue due to the lack of international flights and the strategy is to gradually increase the summer season so that  a flourishing all-year round MICE industry will be more than an optimistic vision.

Spain has Europe’s highest number of tourism jobs with destinations such as Ibiza attracting international companies, event organisers, marketing managers and business tourism professionals to their year-round facilities. Some of Spain’s sunny coastal areas are stretching their tourist seasons with niche off-peak offerings.

With a walled city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, Ibiza is well-placed to exploit its beach and scenery credentials to family, leisure and activity holidaymakers. Building on its reputation as a “Party Capital” with the very best dance music, Ibiza’s clubbing tourism economy accounts for a large part of its income.  It has a growing reputation as a burgeoning ecological wine industry that compliments its culinary posibilities.
